Robyn, the founder of Geek Girl Strong (GGS), lives at the intersection of a lot of different communities, including being an athlete, a nerd, a Black woman, and a first generation American. She realized while interacting with students and other geeks at events like Geek Girl Brunch meetups, there was a way to provide a service to the communities she’s a part of and bring them all together. She sought to create a health and wellness space inviting to nerds, geeks, and bodies of all kinds.
GGS brings together Robyn’s values and interests: overall wellness, community empowerment, feminism, and pop culture.
-
GGS started with a focus on girls and women, we later expanded our inclusion to encompass non-binary individuals. Our main goal at GGS remains consistent: to help like-minded geeks recognize their superhero potential beyond the world of fiction.

Community wellness is an approach to public health that recognizes that individual health is reliant upon community wellbeing. It is recognizing the intersections within biology, psychology, and socio-environmental (biopsychosocial) factors in regards to health. The goal is to empower communities to develop a community-wide system for them to live as well as possible.
For Geek Girl Strong, this looks like...
• A supportive and uplifting Discord server
• Holding one another accountable
• Community members of color are supported by their white peers
• Advocating for health equity and justice: giving time, money, and/or resources to causes and organizations working toward health equity and justice -
Health coaching is different from personal training; it’s more! We use evidence-based behavior change techniques, strategies, and clinical interventions with the help of your healthcare providers to aid you in reaching your wellness goals. Basically, a health coach is like a life coach who is health and wellness-focused/specialized.

Robyn is a Physical/Health Educator (B.S./M.S. Ed.), NY State-certified teacher, American Council on Exercise-certified Health Coach, Certified Precision Nutrition Coach, and Accredited Xpert Pole Instructor.

No problem! We believe everyone is a geek about something. Typically, that word is assigned to those who are passionate about comic books, video games, and other pop culture fandoms. But sports fans get pretty geeky about it; they're some of the best cosplayers! Everyone has something they nerd out on!
-
Movement modification is slightly changing a movement so someone can complete it successfully. For example, hand-elevated pushups versus push-ups on the floor.
-
Absolutely not! Most of Robyn’s clients are working on ability goals rather than the way they look or what the number says on the scale. We can work on behaviors, feeling confident with movement, food, and mental health without having to focus on weight. If you do want to lose weight, we can work on that too, but it isn’t necessary at all!

Thanks so much for wanting to support our work! We do have group events and programs, as well as a Patreon where you can earn wellness rewards and join the best Discord server around. You can also join our email list to hear from me twice a month and get access to events.
